Who is Trim
Cartoonist and Illustrator
I always loved to draw as a child, I sold my first painting whilst working as a waiter in a restaurant in Sheringham, my boss there allowed me to hang some paintings on his wall in the restaurant, I spent 3 years at the Norwich School of Art in the 70's and qualified as a graphic designer but I didn't fancy working in an office so I went to join the Royal Navy but the Royal Marines recruiting sergeant said " you don't want to join the Navy...join the Royal Marines" and so I did. After completing training in 1978/79 and gaining my Green beret I was posted to Deal to join 41 Cdo, within 2 weeks I joined the unit out in Cyprus for the UN tour on the border between the Greeks and the Turks, the following year,1980, 41 Cdo was sent to South Armagh, with my company, Foxtrot Coy based in the border town of Crossmaglen, bandit country. In 1981 41 was disbanded in the presence of Prince Philip I then stayed on at RM Deal until my time was completed in 1982. Whilst in the Corps I was often asked to design sweatshirts and decorate oppos kit bags and suitcases, now all these years later I try to capture some of the more humorous moments in cartoon form that all former Royal Marines will remember. I fit my drawing in between working as a head Gardener at a rose specialist firm in Norfolk. Incidently, I was known as Trim while in the Corps, Bob on social media and my given name Vaughn to family and friends [and my 124A troop oppos]
